Cenote Car Wash, Tulum

One of the many cenotes near Tulum (See map below)

Cenote Dzitnup, Valladolid

Close to Valladolid, this cenote is almost completely enclosed.

Marquesitas, Puerto Morelos

Marquesitas are a traditional treat from the Yucatan region. They are like a "crunchy crepe" with Dutch cheese and/or your choice of nutella, cajeta, honey, or any number of other ingredients. You can buy them in the center square of Puerto Morelos (from a Marquesita cart). They only open at night.

Muyil Ruins, Tulum

Small ruins with few (or no) tourists. Note that you can also hire a boat to tuor you around the lagoon where you can do some snorkeling.

Cenote Zaci, Valladolid

Right in the middle of the city of Valladolid.

Gran Cenote, Tulum

Gran Cenote is fantastic!... and very close to the town of Tulum. There is a small fee to get in.

Quinta Avenida, Playa del Carmen

The "Quinta Avenida" (i.e. fifth avenue) is the heart of Playa del Carmen. It goes for a mile and it has everything from cafes, to ice cream bars, to tourist traps (lots of them!). It is worth seen!

Loncheria "Doña Mary"

Best "Antojitos Yucatecos" in Playa del Carmen! They sell salbutes, panuchos, tortas etc... All made with Charcoal-barbecued chicken! Cheap! They only open at night.

Tacos de Doña Nelsi

This taco stand is EXCELLENT! Doña Nelsi sells traditional "Cochinita Pibil" tacos, "Relleno Negro" turkey tacos and a "choice of the day" tacos.

Tacos "Billy", Puerto Morelos

Great tacos (for locals)... about $80 cents/each. These are "Tacos de Cabeza y Surtidos" (i.e. "head and mixed tacos"), which are very typical of the region. You have several choices of tacos ranging from the more "conventional" choices like pork-chops or sausage, to the "typical" which includes beef eyes, brains, tongue and cheek. You can buy a "agua fresca" (i.e. juice) from the establishment across the street... their "Agua de Guanabana" is exceptional!

Ojo de Agua, Puerto Morelos

An underwater freshwater spring (and cave) plus a set of coral formations. This is the best place to snorkel in Puerto Morelos accessible from shore (and my personal favorite spot in the entire Mayan Riviera). Also, from Ojo de Agua you can hire a boat to go to the reef (snorkeling) or to go Diving.

Yal-ku Lagoon

The lagoon, in general, is a great place to snorkel. However, IN PARTICULAR, just at the mouth of the inlet (marked in the Google map below) there is an spectacular (dead) coral formation with structures several meters long. This coral structure is a MUST see! (if you are in the area).

Akumal Turtles

Best place to snorkel with turtles (hands down!). The exact location where turtles hang around is marked in the Google map below. You can just walk to the beach and get in for a snorkel (for free). However, there are paid tours (not worth it).
